Dr. Douglas grew up in Etobicoke and has devoted his life to the practice of dentistry and the advancement of dental education. “I am very passionate about my profession. I have always loved science, but dentistry allows me to express an artistic side that I never knew I had. I read constantly about advances in the art and science of dentistry. We are always looking for new and better ways of doing things however the procedures and materials that we use must be based on strong scientific evidence, not on a marketing sales pitch”.

After finishing dental school in 1991, Dr. Douglas was chosen to participate as an intern at Toronto General Hospital to further his knowledge of medicine as it relates to dentistry. Following that, he entered into private practice at his current location and joined the West Toronto Dental Society and became president of that organization in 1997. Afterward, Dr. Douglas devoted 6 years to the Ontario Dental Associations Education Core Committee. “We were responsible for inviting the world’s premier dental educators to lecture to Ontario dentists at our annual convention”. In 2011, he was awarded the ODA’s Award of Merit for his accomplishments. Following that, he joined the Executive of the prestigious Toronto Crown and Bridge Study Club with a similar mission, but a narrow, higher level focus. He advanced to President of that organization on May 1, 2013.

In 2009, he was delighted to be nominated to join the Anderson Study Club. This high level study club is made up of 30 dentists from the Toronto Area, one third general dentists, one third specialists, and the final third academics from the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Douglas is only the second general dentist from Etobicoke to be invited to join this group.

In May 2012, Dr. Douglas was thrilled to learn that he had been nominated for membership into the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Acceptance into this prestigious academy is limited to the top 3% of dentists in Canada and is by invitation only.

Despite being so actively involved with his profession, Dr. Douglas balances his lifestyle with a strong family life. He has been married to his wife Dorothy for 26 years and they have two children, Gregory 23, and Caroline 20. They enjoy many family activities together including cycling, golf, scuba diving, skiing, travel, and photography.
